SHANGHAI, Jan. 19, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Shanghai Electric has partnered with the Confucius Institute at the University of Karachi (CIUK) to launch new educational resources for Pakistani personnel in the Thar Block-1 coal and power integration project, as well as Part of a joint initiative to upskill project staff and unlock better career prospects for students from the southern province of Sindh in Pakistan.
The initiative provides free Chinese language courses for Pakistani workers and students from Islamkot and nearby towns and villages, who will receive free textbooks and other language learning resources provided by CIUK teaching staff.As of now, the first class has enrolled 40 workers and 60 students.

In recent years, Shanghai Electric has helped Pakistan build numerous energy infrastructures with industry-leading energy technologies through the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).An EPC contract was signed in April 2019 for the Thar Block-1 integrated coal mine and power project, which includes two 660 MW coal-fired power plants and a 7.8 million tpy coal mine.As a CPEC priority, the project will optimize Pakistan’s energy mix and significantly improve the country’s energy security.
